MAP OF MEMORIES

A homepage illustration for Nhà Nha project
“Nhà Nha”, loosely translated to "It's home" in Vietnamese, is a community album dedicated to bringing together Vietnam and its diaspora. For the Vietnamese community, what does home mean, what has it meant, and what might it be? [From the website]
Based on that brief, my task was to illustrate a homepage banner that is filled with childhood images of the Vietnamese diaspora, images that they can related to.
My idea is a "map of memories", with the concept of an adult woman (the girl in blue jeans) walking down the paths in Vietnam and recalled all the memories she had related to it: the mixture of Western and Vietnamese food, of pizzas, fried chickens and fried spring rolls, phở bò, dripped coffee,  the street food stall with the owner lady, the Paris by night show with her grandma, the essential seasoning in all dishes - fish sauce. If food reflects a culture, then this mixture of Western and Vietnamese food surely reflect the uniqueness of a "Việt Kiều"'s life.
My most delighted moment is to find out from the Nhà Nha team, that the Vietnamese living abroad, no matter how busy they are, still try their best not to forget their root. by still making food and watching Vietnamese show to hear the language.
These are the details from the illustration. Hope you enjoy!
